Last week Arctic Monkeys announced that their new album The Car would be gracing our ears on October 21st via Domino Records.

Well we just got a first taste of this new era of Arctic Monkeys with the album’s lead single and opening cut, “There’d Better Be A Mirrorball.”

It hones in this new era of the band which feels like a natural next step forward from Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, with a lovely lush 70’s esque era style and strings that will give some flashes to The Last Shadow Puppets and a Bond theme quality. It has all the hallmarks of a proper opener, one that sets the scene for the rest of the scenes that are waiting to play out.

Make no mistake, this is Alex Turner and the band proving once again that they’re a band no one can pinpoint or predict, their next step and decision will be one that you won’t see coming but at the same time, makes perfect sense.

If the rest of the album is as strong as “There’d Better Be A Mirrorball”, we’re in good hands for yet another staggering release from the boys from Sheffield.

Find the music video for the track posted below, which was directed by a hot up-and-comer by the name of Alex Turner.
