Phantom Handshakes began as a new collaboration between Matt Sklar (Exiles) and Federica Tassano (Sooner, Mônetre). They’re preparing to release their debut EP Be Estranged, “a collection of 7 tracks ranging from jangly dream pop to shoegaze-y post-punk.” All of the songs were recorded at their respective homes during April and May of 2020, when we were all bunkered down in our homes.
The track captures that timeless dream-pop quality so well, like a mix of Stereolab, The Cure, and some more modern bands like The Pains of Being at Heart. The vocals of Tassano soar to delightful heights, casting a spell that is really welcome during this dark timeline.
