Nashville dream pop indie outfit Palm Ghosts returned last fall with their album Post Preservation, one of the more underlooked records of 2022.
We previously shared album cut and pre-release single “Cross Your Heart” and today we look at single and opening track, “Signal.” The song blends expansive 80s indie rock classics with a bit of a playful tone although that’s not to say it doesn’t pack an emotive punch, as the song is described as being “about our dependent relationship with technology and the negative effects associated with it.” A mix of charming indie rock with playful synths that add up to something powerful.
Then there is the song that follows it, “Silent Fall.” They lean slightly more into a new wave sound that reminds of some of the work of New Order. The sheer tone and texture of the instrumentation and production provoke icy emotional moments that transport you back in time and just like “Signal”, packs a significant emotional punch. The male and female vocal duality of featured vocals from Anne McCue only adds to the track and takes it to that “next level.”
You can find them both streaming directly below and can find the entire album available to buy and stream fully at Bandcamp.
