Detective Larsson is a band from Rhondda Valley in South Wales, via the Västra Götalands, Sweden, who caught our attention during winter 2020 with the release of their single “21 (Dreamt of Freedom).”
“Magic Show” is the latest single to be shared from the band, who found inspiration from the “warmth drawn from memories of Sweden’s Skåne shoreline (where the figure of Death first appears in Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal)” as well as “the discotheques of the 1960s.”
There is a classic songwriting power and an emotive dreaminess that features classic songwriting from the past, full of well-adorned string arrangements and a hazy dreamlike magical feeling that lingers throughout. Like a blend of Mazzy Star, PJ Harvey, and Mitski.
