Madison, Wisconsin’s Disq, have signed to Saddle Creek, who will release their debut album Collector on March 6. This follows their double-sided single “Communication”/”Parallel” released last year.
Collector is an album pulled from each of the band’s five members’ (Raina Bock (bass/vocals), Isaac deBroux-Slone (guitar/vocals), Shannon Connor (guitar/keys/vocals), Logan Severson (guitar/vocals), and Brendan Manley (drums)) demo piles from over the years.
Based on “Daily Routine,” the first single and album’s opening track, these were some damn good demos. The song opens confidently and chugs along with a garage rock swagger that somehow feels both old school and modern at the very same time. There’s a bit of Parquet Courts sound to be found here and we mean that as a complete and utter compliment.
The track is about an intense personal struggle, as the band’s deBroux-Slone explains:
In dark times, life can feel like a cycle that I’m trapped in, repeating over and over with no means of escape. It’s easy to fall into a void, thinking that everybody else has it all figured out, while losing sight of the fact that many others feel exactly the same way.
