Last weekend New York’s very own Frankie Cosmos headlined a sold out show at Bowery Ballroom along with support from soon to break out Atlanta indie rockers Warehouse, Detroit’s Stef Chura, and Brooklyn’s Cende. It was a full bill of various sorts of indie rock, with each artist offering something uniquely their own.

This show served as my introduction to Warehouse, who are being highly touted for a big breakout with their soon to be released sophomore album Super Low, which will be released via Bayonet Records on September 30. Their sound was an encouraging one, full of eclectic offerings mixed smoothly with classic rock sounds. There’s a sense of urgency that strikes while watching them live. Based on what I heard that night, Super Low is not to be missed.

I’ve now seen Frankie Cosmos a handful of times in the past year or so, yet I haven’t even come close to feeling tired of her live performance. Greta Kline radiates with such positive energy and joy up on stage as Frankie Cosmos, then when you factor in her smart, catchy, and breezy songs, it’s hard not to become enamored by it all. I last caught Frankie in April, where she easily filled out the much smaller Shea Stadium. She had no problem filling out Bowery Ballroom, yet, you still felt the same level of personal intimacy, helped by the fact that her songs feel so shared and universal. There were a few new songs shared (“Apathy” & “Home Is Where”), that already sounded familiar and true.

If you’re not singing along to every word of Frankie’s, you’re going to be an outcast. Nearly everyone in her young audience was heard singing along, showing that the power of good song-writing will continue to live on. She joins a flock of artists such as Porches and Alex G who are capturing the hearts of a very young fan base who are willing to show up whenever the next show is booked. Considering that these artists to it all on their own terms, it’s quite an amazing thing to watch.

Scary to think that they’re only getting started.
