On November 25, the day before Thanksgiving, My Morning Jacket embarked on night two of their impressive sold out four-night run at Beacon Theatre. This show featured an opening performance from Strand Of Oaks.
I caught quite a few performances from My Morning Jacket this year in support of their great new album The Waterfall, but all of them were festival slots. Don’t get me wrong, they ended up one of the best performances (if not the best) at the festivals, but there’s nothing quite like a headlining show from MMJ.
As a part of the usual criteria for a multiple night run at a venue, MMJ didn’t repeat a single song from their discography after it was played. While it sucks if they played a favorite of yours the night before, it allows you to truly go in not knowing what to expect. It also means that every single song your getting is a special treat, unique to that night only, making it a truly special experience. I had no complaints about our nights set which was delightfully varied, giving us plenty of great moments such as “Off the Record,” “Phone Went West,” “Anytime,” and “Mahgeetah.”
Reports are that they have another record that was made at the same time as The Waterfall, so chances are we will see MMJ again sooner than we realize.
