If you’ve been following the blog since the early months of 2015, the name Leon Bridges shouldn’t be new to you. Then again, if you’ve been surveying the scene in anyway, the name is one you’re well acquainted with. The man took the year by storm, releasing his critically acclaimed debut album Coming Home (via Columbia Records), touring non-stop moving from Mercury Lounge to Webster Hall (and then Beacon later this March), playing festivals, late night TV shows, and writing an original song for a big time Hollywood film such as Concussion.
Clearly, Bridges is a star in the making (if not already made) and his show at Webster Hall was further confirmation of that. He dominated the stage with an even more confident presence than I saw him with at Mercury Lounge, Bowery, Warsaw and even Newport Folk Festival. His live band has gotten tighter, and his presence on stage is even more commanding and simultaneously at ease. Something tells me Beacon Theater will be an even bigger performance that could go on to be his best yet.
Check out some photos of his performance below, along with fellow Columbia Records labelmate Kali Uchis.
