The year of Courtney Barnett continued well into the summer, with a slot at Newport Folk Festival in the late days of July. Although I’ve probably seen her play one too many times in the past year, her set was one of my most anticipated of the entire weekend.
She played one of the festivals mid-sized tents, but it was clear that she was really meant to take hold of the main stage (next year?). As she’s done time and time again, her and her band delivered a dominant performance that served as a clear reminder why everyone is falling head over heals for Barnett and her incredible debut album.
She’ll be returning to New York soon for a big time opening slot for Blur at Madison Square Garden. Maybe she’ll add a last minute solo performance of her own, so keep an eye out.
