Before Run The Jewels’ set at Boston Calling, Killer Mike hammed up to the Boston crowd by enthusiastically telling the crowd that he rides with Patriots ball-deflator Tom Brady (who is suspended for the first half of the Patriots season, for those non-sports fans out there), and didn’t “give a fuck what they say.” As if the Boston crowd needed anymore reason to love them, this was launched them on team RTJ not only for that bright sunny afternoon set, but probably for life.
Mike’s right arm was tucked away in a brace after a recent shoulder surgery, but he performed with the same intensity as always alongside his partner in crime, El-P. They delivered a energetic bass-heavy set of cuts from their two albums, with a good chunk coming from last years utterly fantastic Run The Jewels 2. They had the crowd eating out of their hand, turning Boston’s City Hall Plaza into a party for the duration of their set. Where else would you hear “Lie, cheat, steal, kill, win, win” anywhere in the vicinity of City Hall Plaza, let alone celebrated? Only at a Run The Jewels show.
They’re back in New York this weekend for a performance at 50 Kent for Northside Festival. Tickets for that are still on sale.
