Late Thursday night I headed to Baby’s All Right for Gorilla vs Bear’s showcase in hopes of catching Lydia Answorth, who was one of my “must see” bands of CMJ 2014. I also heard good things about Tei Shi, and ended up magically getting there in time for her set. Thank god I did, because she blew my mind.
Tei Shi is the project of Valerie Teicher. Based on the promise of her incredible single “Bassically,” it would be safe to call Tei Shi one of the must watch acts out there at the moment. But you won’t realize the pure scope of her talent, and potential, until you catch her live. Hearing her belt out a monsterous performance of “Bassically” was one of the true highlights of the entire CMJ weekend for me (which there were a lot of), and has me clawing to see a full set from her as soon as possible. She has an incredible voice, and a solid backing band that help her bring her sound to complete fruition.
Do yourself a favor, and get well acquainted with her while you can, because the sky is the limit for Tei Shi. Start below, with a stream of her newly released track “See Me” as well as the previously mentioned “Bassically.”
