British group Splashh first caught my attention in the winter of 2012, and have been on my radar of bands to see live ever since. It was long overdue, but I finally made it happen last week during CMJ, when they played a free day showcase at Pianos.
The group delighted with a set of hazy 90s-minded (think a more shoe-gazy Oasis) Brit-rock that was perfect for the mindset of a matinee set during the tiring festival. They ran through tracks from their debut album Comfort, which they released last year. It was special to finally get to hear “All I Want”, the track that I discovered the group through. It was the highlight of the set, a perfect culmination of all the things that make the band work. Youthful energy, a “lost in the clouds” dreaminess, and pure emotion on display.
Splashh have certainly proven themselves as is, but I still think they’re ones to watch. Their best work is still ahead of them.
