After catching sets from Surfer Blood and Devo, it was time for the main attraction of the 3rd Annual CBGB Music Festival at Times Square, which was nonother than Jane’s Addiction.
Frontman Perry Farrell wasted no time getting well acquainted with the crowd, starting the set by entering the photo pit/VIP area to sing opening track “Up the Beach” directly to fans. He was a lively and entertaining frontman, stealing the spotlight often by diving into the crowd, going for an epic crowdsurf or two, or throwing himself around stage when he so desired. It was a nice contrast to the other 3/4 of the band, the calm cool of Dave Navarro who played with a lit cigarette hanging from his mouth, or the reserved but solid rhythem section of drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Chris Chaney.
I never expected I’d be able to catch Jane’s Addiction live, so getting to see them play was a pleasant bonus that I won’t be forgetting anytime soon.
Here’s some photos of their performance, posted below.
