I’ve had my fair share of Phoenix of late. Their Governors Ball set over the weekend was the fourth time I saw them in the past year; though I’m not complaining at all. Truthfully I went into their set not all that excited, and yet, those glorious French bastards wheeled me in again and reminded me why I love them so much.
They just bring it live, every time. I forgot that it was nearly the same set that I had seem four times now, because they deliver the songs so damn well, and look so happy to be doing so. Whether it’s “Lisztomania”, the combo platter of “Too Young/Girlfriend” or “If I Ever Feel Better”, its a reminder of the bands pure talent. They always put on a great show, always delivering their very best.
From Thomas Mars’ commandment of the stage, to the always smiling Christian Mazzalai, or the persistent pounding of the drums from secret weapon Thomas Hedlund, there’s always something to keep an eye on as your singing along. Phoenix have proved time and time again that they’re one of the best rock bands going right now. I can always rely on them to deliver the goods.
