It’s hard to believe that I first posted Lucius back in 2010, and then to see them commanding the main stage at Governors Ball. It was a big transition for me to make, as I had somehow never caught a live performance from them prior to Saturday’s set.
Led by the nearly identical Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, the band sounded sharp as they ran through tracks off their debut album Wildewoman, with highlights including “Hey, Doreen” and “Genevieve.” It’s hard to attribute a specific style to their sound, which expands into many various territories. But the lovely harmonies are something that everyone can get on board with.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the audiences at Lucius’ shows continue to get bigger and bigger over the next few years.
