Thankfully The Governors Ball Music Festival has become NYC’s annual music festival, something we desperately needed out here. After two amazing years of the festival (despite the rain and mud last year) I had huge expectations for the festival this year.
They just announced the lineup for this year, and they didn’t disappoint. Outkast is indeed headlining. Then you have Jack White, Vampire Weekend, and the return of The Strokes. Then throw in the NYC return of Interpol and things are looking like early 2000s NYC. After that you got a solo set from Julian Casablancas as well, Phoenix, Disclosure, Foster The People, TV On The Radio, Spoon, Broken Bells, Damon Albarn, Neko Case, James Blake, Childish Gambino, The Kills, Sleigh Bells, and Grimes. The rest of the bill is filled out nicely by Janelle Monae, The Naked and Famous, Jenny Lewis, The 1975, Tyler, The Creator, Washed Out, Earl Sweatshirt, Kurt Vile, Chance The Rapper, Wild Belle, Tanlines, Skaters, Papa, Hearts, Diarrhea Planet, and Little Comets.
I’m pretty happy with this, considering we don’t get to see too much of The Strokes or Interpol these days. Plus there are some great booking such as Julian Casablancas, Spoon, Damon Albarn, and Grimes. Also, let’s not ignore that both Tyler, The Cretor and Earl Sweatshirt are playing. Maybe we’ll see some special Odd Future collaborative performances.
I’m very pleased with this lineup. Who will I see there? Tickets go on sale today at 3 p.m.
