Joe Cornish

With J.J. Abrams directing Star Wars Episode VII, Star Trek 3 is currently hunting for a new director (Abrams will still produce). Deadline reports that apparently Paramount and Skydance Productions have their gaze set on Joe Cornish to direct the third Star Trek film. Rupert Wyatt and Jon M. Chu were also rumored at one point as possibilities.

Cornish made his directorial debut with the great Attack The Block back in 2011. He also co-wrote the underrated The Adventures Of Tintin as well as the upcoming Ant-Man, which he co-wrote with Edgar Wright. Cornish did amazing things with a small budget on Attack The Block, bringing an alien invasion to life in exciting fashion. I can only imagine what he could do on a film with the scope of Star Trek.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are currently writing Star Trek 3, which is looking to shoot next summer aiming for a summer 2016 release date.
