UPDATE (10/2/2015): At this point in time, there is still no word on whether or not Chiwetel Ejiofor is a part of the continuing Star Wars franchise, as he is cast as Baron Mordo in Marvel’s upcoming Phase 3 film Doctor Strange. The original post continues below.
Naturally, the upcoming Star Wars Trilogy is one of the more anticipated things happening the movie world. The first installation, Star Wars Episode VII, is set for a release in December 2015.
The latest Star Wars rumor came by happenstance. The Times writer Rhys Blakely was headed into the Bad Robot office to interview the film’s director J.J. Abrams abuot Abrams’ about his new book S, and who did he founded waiting in there as well but Chiwetel Ejiofor himself. In the article Blakely writes:
The British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, front-runner in this year’s Oscar race (for his work in 12 Years A Slave – see our review here), is sitting in the lobby of J.J. Abrams’ office. If you’re a sci-fi fan, this might be very big news indeed.
Clearly this is just speculation, but Ejiofor is the frontrunner in the Best Actor Oscar race, so if he’s being considered for the new Star Wars film, this is big news for many reasons. We’ll eventually find out whether this rumor is true, or if he was just meeting J.J. for another Bad Robot-related project.
