The Voidz, led by Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, returned this year with their sophomore album Virtue via Cult Records/RCA Records. They celebrated its release with a 4-show residency in Brooklyn at Elsewhere throughout the month of June.

We caught the final show of their residency on June 27, which started off with a lively opening performance from Washington D.C punk rockers Priests who sounded as fierce as ever.

This my third time seeing The Voidz perform and easily the tightest performance from them yet. They’ve had plenty of times to grow as a unit and this show proved that they’ve come a long, long way since the first time I saw them, way back in 2014 at SXSW. They kicked things off with the first ever live performance of Virtue standout “Pink Ocean,” and dug through a wide variety of tracks from both of their albums, including the live debut for “Think Before You Drink,” as well.

Julian and the band sported a loose and highly spirited energy on stage, clearly having fun playing these songs in front of such a young adoring audience. They gave us not just one, but two encores, which concluded with a performance of their most epic, and best song, “Human Sadness.”
