Stop sleeping on Adult Jazz people. If you’re not spinning their fantastic debut album Gist Is on the regular, you’re missing on one of the finest treasures of 2014. The British art-rockers made their U.S. debut at CMJ, stopping in for a few select showcases. I was only able to catch them at their Fader Fort performance, but I’m just happy to have caught them at all.
The group sounded phenomenal (as expected), but Fader Fort wasn’t the right place for them, as most of the crowd is jut there for free booze and just ended up conversing as they played. With a band like Adult Jazz, you need a small intimate venue with a hushed crowd that will help you soak in all the quiet spaces and stop-start harmonies that Adult Jazz create. But with that said, I absolutely loved what I heard from the guys, as I knew I would. I’m already looking forward to their first proper headlining show in New York.
In case you missed it, head here to check out a remix of “Springful” that Shabazz Palaces remixed.
