The new material that La Roux has shared so far from her soon to be released album Trouble In Paradise (July 8 via Cherrytree/Interscope) has been a very pleasant surprise for me. Based on those songs I decided to venture over to catch her live.
There was a definite buzz in the air in the Gotham Tent which was a bit too small for someone of her stature. This wasn’t surprising, as it’s been a good five years since her breakout hit “Bulletproof” was everywhere and anywhere. I left before she played that, but I caught the first few songs of her set which were fun but missed a bit of a live bite that I would have preferred. As I said, I’m loving the recorded material that we have heard off the new LP, so I’m quite excited to see how it all turns out, as I expect it to be one of the better pop records of the year.
