Brooklyn’s SAVAK returned with their new album SQUAWK!, last week via Ernest Jenning Record Co. / Peculiar Works Music. It’s their seventh album, one that sees the band expand their sound and reach into a new territory.
Single “No Man’s Island” is a highlight, featuring 70s classic rock guitar riffs with a Lou Reed quality to its style and vocal delivery that just radiates cool and sounds like its from a different era when life was just much simpler. It’s a perfect song to cool down with this summer.
Another pre-release single “American Vernacular” takes the album into a different place, with a hypnotic atmosphere that is equal parts haunted, and fulled with a cinematic sense of awe and wonder that is a great shift following “No Man’s Island.”
Then there’s “Tomorrow And The Day After”, a track that channels classic 90s indie rockers that blends elements of R.E.M. with Mission Of Burma with a raw nature that hits with authority.
