Norway punk rocker Lazy Queen returned last weekend with Mixtape: Lost, Never To Be Seen Again vol. 1, featuring new recordings of early material.
One of the highlights is the frantic blitzing super-charged single “Lazy Queen – “Unemployed, Uninspired.” Delivered with a raw thrashing intensity, it has a sense of urgency that just hits all the right notes, reminding of early 2000s acts such as The Hives, The Vines, and Von Bondies.
Detailing the track, the bands adds:
“Unemployed, Uninspired is, in my mind, the musical equivalent of screaming fuck-off-and-let-me-self-destruct-in-peace into one’s pillow. We wrote it in 2017 and had it as a regular part of our live-set at the time, but never got around to recording it. Fittingly, I’m back to being unemployed at the moment, so this EP is a natural release for the track to finally appear on. Despite, or perhaps because of, its overt darkness and cynicism, it’s such a fun and cathartic song to play and simply surrender oneself over to. Thematically, it might not be the healthiest mindset, and I’m pretty sure my therapist wouldn’t approve, but sometimes you gotta remember the eternal words of Shrek: “better out than in, I always say”.
It also contains the only Norwegian lyrics in Lazy Queen’s catalogue – so we had to get it recorded for posterity. Anyways, anyone hiring?”
