The Slashes are a three-piece band from San Diego that released their new single “War Candy” back in March.
The track features a gritty blend of post punk and garage rock, that feels like its pulled from the 80s. Sharp guitars, a romantic feeling in the air with the seductive vocals, and a playful upbeat dance quality that is very The Smiths – it’s a track that feels joyful and melancholic driven at the same time.
Speaking on the track, the band adds:
War Candy was a title casually tossed while Bukowski’s Love Is A Dog From Hell was being dog-eared in our downtime, but aligns perfectly with those themes and imagery of bathroom stalls, 1930s propaganda and faded heroes. “War Candy” serves as the silver screen to project an imaginary war film whose celluloid never saw the light of day-or it’s the dreamy documentary of our own wanton desires.
