Bristol’s Wakey Wakey Rise & Shine returned in April with their sophomore EP, Rear Meat, which was released via Velvet Echoes.

“Armadillo” is the EPs opening cut, a song that is about a dream that frontman Smudge had. The track opens up with an equally soothing and chaotic set of electronic flourishes, before kicking into high gear into a blend of Squid and DEVO with a blend of post-punk energy with art rock experimentation and expert navigation.

Speaking on the dream, the band’s drummer Seamus adds:

“Armadillo is about a dream that Smudge had where a business tycoon would steal from everyone he could which made Smudge super scared but then he woke up and realised it was all a dream. The inspiration for this song came from Smudge having that dream, and then we as the band wanted to recreate the different notions of sleep we experience such as REM, waking up from a nightmare, the notion of falling asleep and not being able to get to sleep in a musical sense.”
