M(h)aol, whose members are based in Dublin, Cork, Belfast, and London returned with their new album, Something Soft, on May 16th via Merge Records.

One of the highlights of the record is “I Miss My Dog”, a track that we heard them play back in May when they stopped into Brooklyn’s TV Eye. The punk track carries with it a great deal of unease and tension, reminiscent of some of the work of Gilla Band – no mistake as the album’s producer Jamie Hyland has worked with them.

Speaking on the track, the band’s Constance Keane adds:

“’I Miss My Dog’ is a song about my dog Poppy, and the experience of losing a pet. She passed away in July last year, and I still sometimes wake up thinking she’s with us. I think losing a dog is something that people either understand or they don’t, and this is a song for those of us that do.”

“DM:AM” is another standout cut from both the show and album, capturing a primal sense of urgency that features swirling pummeling qualities that just hit all the right notes in a genuine passionate way.
