Kitchen Slug are an indie rock band from Tulsa, Oklahoma, who won us over last fall with their wonderful single “Pieces.”
Earlier this year they returned with “benchmark”, their contribution to a Oklahoma scene compliation and described as a song about “trying to escape a life that keeps you trapped.”
There’s a dreamy blend of indie rock with some shimmering guitar work that blends some fuzzy guitar work with lush vocals that have elements of folk rock with a light sprinkling of shoegaze. The command of the tone and the sun-soaked nature of the track are a perfect combination that should be belted at all BBQ’s this summer with a cold one nearby.
