Maida Rose is the dreampop duo of Javièr den Leeuw and Roos Meijer, from The Hague, The Netherlands. They’re preparing the release of their new album, In Boundless Blue, and have given us a taste with lead single “Trying To Forget.”
The gorgeous track is “about the complexities of holding onto memories from a past relationship and questioning whether they truly reflect reality.” It’s a harrowing yet touching blend of solemn thoughts blended with gorgeous arrangements and their ever-present duel vocals that create a blend of lush atmospherics and a soul-piercing feeling in the air.
Further diving into the songs meaning, the band add:
Trying To Forget is a song about the complexities of holding onto memories from a past relationship and questioning whether they truly reflect reality. It’s about the struggle of trying to forget certain moments that still feel so vivid, even when you wish they would fade. The song was born during a creative retreat in a cabin in France, where we arrived with no music, just our gear, and the quiet of the wilderness around us. What started as a raw exploration of sound quickly transformed into a track that blends drum machines with indie folk-like guitar, capturing both the tension and release we felt. The storytelling in the vocals are more intimate, vulnerable, and deeply personal than before. Trying To Forget became a journey into the past, trying to make sense of memories, while still holding onto the hope of moving forward.
