Mumble Tide is an indie folk duo from Bristol, UK who we first posted about back in 2020. Earlier this month they returned with “The Rails”, their new single released via Breakfast Records.
It’s a gorgeous slow-scorching piece of folk rock with some delicate atmospherics and warm strings, with a bit of an experimental pop stamp completely of its own. There’s a genuine emotional command to the song, which lead singer Gina Leonard details below:
“The rails is like an angry kiss, or throwing stones at a mirror – it’s about leaning into all the things that hold me back and in the process realising that they’re not as solid as they seem. I tend to hold pretty unrealistic standards for myself and often feel that I let people down – writing The Rails gave me a sense of freedom to be imperfect and recognise the potential that still exists if I can learn to give myself another chance.”
