Street Legal are a post-punk outfit from Adelaide, Australia who recently let go of their single “Cardio”, a song partly inspired by the Roxane Gay quote, “I don’t hate myself in the way society would have me hate myself.”

Cardio’ fiercely challenges unrealistic body standards with a pummeling energy of indie rock and post punk, through the lens of a vibrant 80s influence. The combination is one that merges perfectly into a sector entirely of its own.

Detailing the track, they add:

“‘Cardio’ is a response to feeling a bit disillusioned with society, my own personal agency and the pressures of life in general,” explains Matt. “When I was writing the song at the time I was reading a lot of vitriol online directed at a certain pop singer about her body size and her choice to feel and be comfortable in her own skin.”
