Quells is the solo project of singer-songwriter & multi-instrumentalist Adam Fitzgerald of Shady Groves, Moon Lake, Ojala, and The Kodaks.
He’s recently returned with “Ice Temple” a song that he has been sitting on since The Kodaks broke up mid 2012. It comes released via his own Underflow Records.
“Ice Temple” bursts out of the speakers with groovy funky instrumentation and a hazy set of of vocals that cast a dreamy shadow full of lush vocals and production that calls to mind early 2010s indie darlings such as Small Black, as well as traces of acts like Craft Spells and Wild Nothing.
Detailing the tack, Fitzgerald adds:
“It was one of the first few songs I wrote after The Kodaks broke up, so it was a new mind-set after focusing solely on that project for many years. There’s a handful of songs from that era that I hope to include as part of a Quells album with newer songs as well, including “Pale Moonlight,” “Life is Art,” and “Dear Angels” – “Ice Temple” and “Oceansway” are two others from that era. 2012 and 2023 have been the most transformative years of my life, so it makes sense the first Quells full release would have songs from both years, like bookends.” “Lucky #7” and “Ice Temple” come hot off the heels of the Quells and Pesky Kid collaboration, “Real Love” and follows Fitzgerald’s other Quells singles “Smoke Dance” and “Pale Moonlight”
