Originating from San Francisco and now based in Germany, Beautiful Machines is the project comprised of Conrad Schuman (vocals, guitar, production), Stefanie Ku (synths & production), and Ralf Schumacher (drums).
They’ve given us a taste of their forthcoming album Singularity through single “Operator” which has the vibrant and colorful synth-driven soundscapes of bands like M83, with the anthemic vocals of 90s Brit rockers like Oasis. It all adds up to something gloriously cinematic with a big scope and strong centered emotional core.
Speaking on the track, the band adds:
“Operator” delves into the concept of a holographic universe, where the lines between dreams and consciousness blur. Inspired by iconic films like The Matrix and Inception, the track challenges listeners to ponder whether they are part of a grand simulation. The song’s protagonist, the Operator, navigates this virtual world, echoing themes of technological evolution and human-machine integration.
Musically, “Operator” stands out with its nod to retro arcade sounds and innovative use of odd time signatures. The track’s epic length features a captivating outro, complete with a guitar solo and synth interlude, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that is both engaging and thought-provoking.
