OHR is the Seattle, Washington-based project of Craig Klein (formerly of The Race), whose music we first shared back in 2021.

Klein will release his new album Afterglow this Friday, August 30th, via Headstate Records. Today he’s shared new single “Runaway”, a track that takes us back to the simple charm of indie rock and pop tracks of the late 2010s in the vein on Passion Pit.

Speaking on the track, Klein adds:

“Runaway is about connection and submitting ourselves to the wild and uncertain path of navigating life with another human. Musically I was really inspired by the driving quality. and directness of early House records and the out front vocal samples that often tied everything together. I play a lot with side chain processing which carves out space for the kick, but sometimes leads to unexpected results especially on how all of the sequences in this track duck around each other. As I’ve gotten older I’ve been a lot less concerned with being cool or obfuscating my intentions and I’m in a place now where I’m comfortable enough in my skin to write something as direct as Runaway.”

Also on the album are fellow pre-release singles “Ride the Wave” and “Afterglow.”

“Ride The Wave” is a track that revels in some classic psych rock, while also playing with elements of 90s Brit Rock, blending into something that feels very Primal Scream and MGMT.

“Afterglow” continues this trajectors, with a throbbing set of electronics that blend perfectly into something with a bit of The Flaming Lips as well as the psych-rock 90s sound of Jagwar Ma.
