Soot Sprite are a shoegaze and dream-pop outfit from Exeter, UK, who recently released their new 7″ single, I Went Swimming / Home Among Your Bones via Specialist Subject Records.

“Home Among Your Bones” is a shimmering slice of 80’s dream pop with a glam lively nature to it that features a vibrant spirit with a big heart. As the band details, it’s a song about feeling happy and safe in a relationship. As singer/songwriter Elise Cook details:

“This is a song about feeling happy and safe in a relationship. I wanted to capture the joy of feeling love with someone without feeling insecure and sad which is something very new to me. I wrote it not long after moving in with my partner, it was and still is such a happy time, and it felt weird to put that into words to be listened to by the world. Ultimately it’s how I feel, and that’s how I’ve always written. It’s nice to be cringey sometimes!”

“I Went Swimming” is an anthemic blend of rousing 90’s era indie rock with some big anthemic guitar work, and a bit of that youthful vigor and charm that feels like it could’ve been pulled out of the NME days of the early 2000s.

Cook goes on the describe it further:

“A song about recognising a red flag in your relationship and emotionally shutting down to that person and cutting things off. Some people describe this as getting “the ick” but that feels like a trivial term. Sometimes we have to learn from our mistakes and protect ourselves and that’s exactly what this is about.”
