Cayo Coco is the solo project of Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist, Lumen Loraine, who returned with his new album, Gone the Mirage, on May 31st.
One of the singles and highlights of the record is “Lost Sailor”, is a glimmering slice of indie folk and rock that and a song about leaving behind memories and habits of childhood behind. It features elements of psych-rock with an expansive tone that calls to mind elements of MGMT
Detailing the track, Loraine adds:
Lost Sailor is about leaving the memories & habits of childhood behind & exploring life outside of the sheltered world view I carried with me for my first 26 years. Even as an adult who was living 2000 miles away from my hometown, I found myself feeling small & fearing the world, living as though I was still a child in need of protection. This song specifically speaks on the sibling relationship with my brother, who happens to be one of my best friends. The patterns of play, arguing, & distraction that still exist between us are being called to spill, & the journey forth is one where the idea of family itself is repositioned in a healthier, interdependent fashion. I also feel this song speaks to my inner child, & has themes in it that are woven throughout the album as a whole. I hope this song connects with those who have experienced enmeshed home environments, & encourages them to explore their own identity outside of who they’ve always believed themselves to be.
