BATTS is the project of Melbourne musician, Tanya Batt. She has recently returned with new single “Sell You The Sun”, the first new release since her 2022 sophomore album, The Nightline.
The track features a steady blend of dreamy rock and folk elements, with a lush quality that feels like a modern take on classic pop/rock elements of the 60s. Vibrant and humming with a lush sun-soaked energy that is welcoming and pleasant as can be.
Speaking on the song, Batt adds:
“Sell You The Sun is another way of saying “Kill them with kindness”. I wrote it whilst reading Jeff Tweedy’s book ‘How to Write One Song’. I sat down in the morning to do his “word ladder exercise” and my favourite phrases I’d put together that morning were – Greet & Elephant, Sell & Sun and Change & Hurricanes. I moved to my piano and wrote this song very quickly. It’s very much so inspired by The Beatles and I finally got to create the middle 8 section I’ve always wanted”.
