august for dawn is the New Zealand-based project of Charlie Ryder (of Yumi Zouma) – who also has been releasing other solo music under his own name.

He’s since returned with “Better Late Than Never” a song that “describes the murder of a best friend’s abusive step-father amidst a brutal forest fire.” It’s a melancholic gentle slice of dreamy bedroom pop with a folk nature, that does feel slightly at arm’s length – like a haunted dream/nightmare – the sort of which Ryder is describing.
