The North County is an experimental pop band from Washington, D.C. fronted by Andrew Grossman. Last month they returned with their new album, The Future’s All We Need, released via House Of Joy.
It’s a vibrant and quirky slice of indie pop with a bombastic slightly theatrical nature that comes bursting out of the gate and never lets go. Its infectious nature is hard to ignore, with pop hooks that have traces of early 2000s bands like of Montreal and even Ben Folds.
Speaking on the track, Grossman adds:
“I had spent the better part of my twenties tying myself into knots trying to find answers to the big questions; what does it all mean? Why am I here? How can I know truth? This song is me coming out of that and concluding that there are no answers, and the best way to live is to just try to have a good time. That seems to work well. Beyond that, it’s all just speculation. I wrote the music for San Antonio Pot Brownies while on a day off on tour with Sean Barna SXSW tour in 2019. We were staying at a friend’s house in San Antonio, and I ate a pot brownie.”
