“Neopathway” is a gorgeous indie folk song from a mysterious band named Slack.
There’s a blend of 90s folk with a bit of a raw confessional intimate indie, built within a spacious widescreen nature of atmosphere and production that soars with a great deal of confidence. It blends elements of artists such as Elliot Smith, Alex G, and Sufjan Stevens.
Or as they put it:
Neopathway is the name of a concept we created, which can be defined as, “a way out; represented by light, and often presented to someone when everything seems hopeless.” The songs lyrics explore this by exploring the perspective of a man drowning in a vast sea. As he struggles and fights to live, he eventually finds Neopathway and is washed ashore. Something to add here as well is that Neopathway is not a permanent solution. While it brings relief or salvation in one moment, it will eventually disappear. This is seen at the end of the second verse and into the first mini-chorus when the lyrics state:
