Singer-songwriter Dune Moss has recently hit back with her enchanting new single “I Am My Own”, a song that packs a timely and relevant empowering message.
Ethereal flourishes operate in tandem with Moss’ epic vocals that pack a significant emotional punch, while also wowing with icy instrumentation and grand production that simply soars.
Speaking on the track, Moss adds:
I’ve never written a song that feels as empowering as this one. The meaning reflects my experiences as a woman and is my cry to take back my sovereignty. In the first verse, I am talking to the men that held authority over me and my body while being raised in a high-demand religion. “I Am My Own” feels so powerful to me because I am speaking my truth, I am letting out the thoughts I was always shamed for and standing up for myself. Although it is a song of strength, I still have real fears being a woman in our patriarchal society. The second verse reflects on those fears, but ultimately I am not allowing those fears to control me anymore. In the last chorus I chant my favorite line “I am the keeper of the blood in my veins, You won’t paint with my blood, I won’t bleed in your cup”. The words are literal and metaphorical. With men deciding what I can and can’t do with my body they are literally dealing with my blood, and I will protest the rights to own my own body. I am on the journey of no longer allowing the outer authority of patriarchy to paint my lines but instead taking back my brush of sovereignty.
