Los Angeles singer-songwriter Lily Kershaw has recently returned with “Americandream” is a song about the crumbling of the American dream. It’s ahead of the release of Kershaw’s upcoming album, due out later in the year.
The song is a sprawling folk and alt-country ballad of sorts, although it has a rather bleak look at the American dream, it also looks ahead as “hopeful and encouraging song about going after the dream you have regardless.” There’s a Jenny Lewis-like quality to its approach, one with a warm and tender delivery that carries the DNA of classics of a bygone era.
