Milou Moon is the psych rock project of French-American musician Emily McGill who recently shared new EP, Trails To Centre. One of the highlights from the EP is its single “The Murray.”
It’s a song that she wrote about a “magical camping spot along the Murray river. It’s dives into a 60’s minded psych rock band, with some vibrant and chilled-out instrumentation and equally hazy vocals, that feels like a wonderful blend of Melody’s Echo Chamber, Pond, and early Tame Impala.
Speaking further on the song’s inspiration, McGill adds:
I wrote this track about a magical camping spot along the Murray river –koalas everywhere, hammock strung up between river red gums overlooking the river– that became an escape during lockdown. The driving rhythm of this track mimics a highway escape from city life while the swirling melodies wrap you up in the hypnotic embrace of a roiling river on a scorching hot day.
