The Eyebrows are a Charlotte, North Carolina-based band preparing for the release of their third album, Double Take.
It’s a concept record with each side is tracked and mixed in different ways – side one features polished studio tracks recorded and mixed by their longtime produced Mitch Easter, and then side two was tracked at their practice space, produced and mixed by the band’s singer-songwriter, Jay Garrigan.
Ahead of the release comes lead single and opening track (of side 1), “Say Yeah!” It’s a glorious throwback to classic rockers in the vein of Big Star or Cheap Trick, as if it’s plucked directly out of the Dazed & Confused soundtrack.
Speaking on the single, Garrigan adds:
“Say Yeah!” is a celebration of those times when you need an energetic friend to nudge you towards a good time. The song is inspired by the ’80s movie, Heavy Metal, and its soundtrack, which resonated with Jay’s 11-year-old self. Lines like, You say Yeah ’cause you’re from outer space, Spread your wings and save the human race, pay homage to the movie’s energy and attitude. The fun and exclamatory lyrics here deviate from Jay’s usual introspective style, and they represent a call to action, urging you to let go of whatever holds you back. “It’s about shedding inhibitions and embracing the experience,” Jay says.
