Fears is the solo project of Dublin-born , London-based, musician and producer Constance Keane, of the Irish band M(h)aol.
Keane has released Fears’ new single “11249” which features Jemima Coulter and Ailbhe Reddy and will be on Fears’ upcoming new album, affinity, due out March 22nd via tulle.
The track is a sparse and heartbreakingly intimate slice of indie folk. Led by a gentle and devestatingly haunting vocal performance, and some warm horn arrangements surrounding the tender vocals, invoking elements of The National in its scope.
On the track, Constance Keane adds:
I wrote this song on Feb 21 2023, after calling my mom crying about how beautiful the skyline in New York looked. Sometimes you encounter things that hit you so hard you think “wow so if I had actually died a few years ago when I tried to, I’d never have gotten to see and experience this”. It’s a pretty weird emotion, where you’re both so happy for the current you, and really sad for the past you at the same time. Jemima Coulter put out a record called Grace After a Party that I could not stop listening to while I was in New York in March 2023. They had driven and tour managed my band M(h)aol on two tours at that point, and I find them so calming and reassuring that it was a genuine honour when they said they’d be on this song. I live with Ailbhe Reddy in London, and love her a lot. She was over in New York at the same time so it feels really perfect to have her joining on vocals too.
