Tonight Vampire Weekend has shared “Capricorn” and “Gen-X Cops,” two brand new songs from their upcoming fifth album, Only God Was Above Us, which will be released on April 5th.
“Capricorn” has a wintery cinematic atmosphere that feels like it could have fit in on Modern Vampires of The City, with “Gen-X Cops” featuring a more sun-soaked and frantic energy that recalls some of their earlier work – with a bit of a Contra element mixed with “Diane Young.” The band seem to have dug a bit back to a mix of sounds from their first three albums, but in a way that represents their present to. It’s a return to form, from the future.
