Emily Gilbart is an indie folk artist from Orangeville, Ontario, who has returned with her fourth single in “Soap.” It’s a song that sees Gilbert reflect on her experience coming of age as a queer woman, and the lessons learned through her biggest heartbreak.

It’s a sprawling and gorgeous folk-led power ballad, with a strong soulful vocal performance that paints this story in an apt and poetic fashion that cuts you directly where it hurts. There are traces of artists such as Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers, and Angel Olsen, but also in a path that is distinctly her own.
