Byland, the project of Seattle-based project of singer/songwriter, Alie Renee Byland, will return with her sophomore album, Heavy For A While, via Mother West, on March 29th.
Ahead of its release, she has shared its single “Lean In”, a track that was written with her songwriting partner and husband, Jake Byland.
It’s a cathartic folk-driven rock offering that has a slow-burn yet rising anthemic punch, blending elements of Torres, Sharon Van Etten, and Big Thief.
Detailing the single, Alie adds:
““Lean In” is about “the woes of chasing success in this world when you think you know what that looks like. We wrote this after being rejected by a radio station that we idealized. At its best, this is my ‘chip on the shoulder’ / ‘fuck the gatekeepers’ anthem, but also an empowering protest to my own gnawing lack of self-worth.”
