Thalo is the moniker of Brooklyn-based musician Jack Harbo, who a few months ago returned with his new album, Killing Her.
“Wasteland Blues” has elements of a seductive old-school psych-rock sound with traces of some James Bond-theme flair and production flourishes. It’s a song that he says comes from the “perspective of a post-apocalyptic wanderer chatting with someone he’s met on the road.” There is surely a mysterious tone and spirit to the track that has some elements of The Last Shadow Puppets vibe as well.
Then there is another standout in “Go Away”, a groovy steady blend of rock and pop, with a funky spirit and some slick instrumentals that also dabble in some old school qualities, although there is a more pop quality to it, even with moments of hip-hop in its vocal delivery and approach.
