Swiss singer-songwriter Mary Middlefield has recently returned with her new single “Atlantis.”
The track is a dreamy and confessional slice of folk songwriting with undeniable power. There are elements of chamber pop with wonderous arrangements and flourishes that pack a devastating emotional punch.
Speaking on “Atlantis” Middefield adds:
“The song is about sadistic love, which has been one of my favorite subjects to write about lately. It’s not normal to be so infatuated with a person that gives you so little in return. However, I find those emotions very interesting in humans. When in love (especially unhealthy love) we are sometimes willing to give everything away, to sacrifice our own happiness for someone else’s and sometimes even go down darker routes. I wanted the song to be sweet, romantic yet almost morbid. Nobody should have to go through these extremes or even think about them to feel loved and validated.”
