Mimike is the solo project of independent UK artist and activist Lucy Cadena, a classically-trained pianist from Devon, England.
They have recently shared their gorgeous single “The Well,” a song about the journey from heartbreak and despair towards truth and empowerment.
There is a haunted and ethereal nature to the track that combines elements of dreamy melancholia with a foreboding electronic presence that has traces of some powerhouse 90s indie legends such as PJ Harvey and Mazzy Star.
Speaking on the track, they add:
It was recorded and produced the kitchen of an apartment in Turin, Italy. I didn’t have a mic holder so I made one out of a flower pot and a tea-towel. The result is a bit scrappy, and mixed with its moody, hammering beat and cavernous synth crescendo, it has a bit of an a homemade-’80s-mixtape/post-punk vibe.
